Parents, this quarter we are learning about ecosystems in class during science time. As I have explained in my first letter home, I am integrating technology and creativity into many assignments. This gives students a way to learn and explore the curriculum in a different, non-traditional way. Last Friday I introduced a mini Project for students to work on to be due at the end of two weeks. Students may turn it in sooner if they want. All they have to do, is find an example of an ecosystem somewhere in our community and then using a video camera, iPod with a camera, iPad with a camera or phone with a camera, to take a 20 second video of the ecosystem. They need to send it to me through email. They can send it just as is or if they'd like to add music and a title if they have a way to do that. They must include a list of the biotic factors and abiotic factors of the ecosystem and email the list as well. Remind them that there are different places to find ecosystems like ponds, lakes and even the desert. If your child doesn't have a camera, they can borrow one from me. They just need to plan when they will need it and then ask me for it. Mini projects are due on or before Oct. 15.
